The Only New Year’s Resolution You Need

What if I told you that there was a New Year’s resolution that could give you unshakeable joy, an incredible purpose, and complete satisfaction?

I’m sure many of you have made lists of resolutions for the coming year. But like the once begged for Christmas presents that are already tossed to the side, our resolutions often lose their excitement. What we once thought would be all we ever needed quickly becomes something we can easily live without.

Isn’t it so easy to set your hope in the person we’re going to be in the new year? But even if you become that person, you will not be satisfied.

Our resolutions will disappoint us. Breaking that bad habit, earning more money, getting more exercise, even reading your Bible daily won’t fill that longing inside you.

The only thing that will satisfy us is Christ. Which is one of the main reasons that ‘be completely satisfied in Christ’ is the only resolution you need this year.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

John 5:35

Being satisfied in Christ means trusting that what God has given you is enough. That the grace he has poured out on you, and the grace he will pour out on you, is infinitely greater than anything this world has to offer.

So, this year, as you begin to follow your resolutions don’t forget that Christ is worth more. When you feel great for keeping a resolution, remember that you are even more fulfilled in Christ. And if things don’t go as planned, know that you can be satisfied because you are still in the hands of a sovereign God.

We were created to bring glory to God. It’s our calling and our purpose. The tagline of DesiringGod.org is “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.” Being completely satisfied in Christ is what brings God glory!

When we are satisfied in Christ, we can have joy no matter our circumstances. We will not look to other things for worth, and never be in want. Because being satisfied in Christ glorifies God, through it we are given an incredible purpose.

This year, pray that you will become completely satisfied in Christ.

  1. McKinley, One day, a very special man will be deeply blessed to have you as his wife, and mother to his children. Keep living for Jesus and he will direct your life’s pathway.
